Giorgio de Chirico was an Italian painter and writer who is best known for his influence on the Surrealism movement. He originally founded the scuola metafisica art movement, a movement that began in 1911 and introduced dreamlike art with high contrasts of lights and shadows. Art of this Era was characterized as having a “vaguely threatening, mysterious quality”. The scuola metafisica art movement profoundly influenced the surrealist artists.
