Still Life- A Collection of Value

As I collected my garbage of the week, I sorted through what types of different materials I had thrown out.  With the exception of the various paper wrappers, napkins, and cardboard, I noticed that much of the waste was plastic material. I recalled that plastic waste is one of the main pollutants found in oceans and waterways across the globe. Every year an estimated 19 million pounds of waste ends up in oceans, affecting the ecosystem drastically. Marine life often mistakes floating trash for food, eating the garbage and clogging their stomachs which eventually kills them. Sea turtles are in extreme danger of consuming trash as one of their main food sources, jellyfish, closely resemble plastic bags and other plastic watse. I decided to explore the idea pollution’s effect of the ocean and marine life by creating my still life in the image of jellyfish made from plastic remnants.
