One piece of Erica Magrey’s that caught my attention was her short film “Own This”. The video features multiple vignettes that include costumes, photos, choreography, and music all created and designed by the artist. I was instantly drawn to this film because of its unique and quirky style. The pops of color and avant-garde costumes are eye-catching and instantly grab a viewer’s attention. Aspects from this film that I would also like to try in my own videos are the use of jump cuts and the synchronization of movements to sounds and music. I was inspired by how Erica was able to represent a multitude of serious subjects yet portray them in fun and unique ways that instantly catch an audiences attention.
