Tapped Reflection

Think of two examples that reveal some of the complexities of these issues, describe in which ways this industry impacts our systems?

  • One town noticed a change in their ecosystem after a water bottling plant moved in. The town saw a drastic increase in plastic waste in their waterways after the water bottle industry started their production.. The plastic waste is very harmful to the environment as it takes an extremely long amount of time for plastic to decompose, therefore the bottles will sit in the waterways for years upon years. Another effect of the industry on a much larger scale is the extreme waste of the product, every bottle is designed to be a one time use product, and once its been used, it is tossed away. Everyday around 30 million single-served bottles of water are thrown away and become plastic waste.

  •        What information really surprised you?
  • I was shocked at the sheer amount of needless waste that came from water bottles being tossed out everyday. Millions Upon millions of plastic bottles are thrown out for water that is simply very expensive recycled tap water. I also never noticed how much water wasn’t “fresh” or from springs and insead was just over priced, packaged tap water, some of which contains harmful chemicals that can affect both humans and the environment.

  •        Do you think watching this documentary will have any effect on your water drinking habits? Why or why not?
  • Yes, after watching the film I do believe my water drinking habits will change, Before watching the Documentary I thought of Bottled water as much more pure and safer than tap, however after the film I find that that’s not always the case.
