Project Statement Bridge 3

In the artist statement please include your motivation for your thesis subject, how you found your sources, what inspired you, how you followed your curiosity, any responses you have to Cornell’s work, any responses you have to the history of Victorian Cabinets of Curiosity – and, of course, how you used the sources in your box, or how you were inspired to work on your 2D or digital visual responses.

The subject I’m addressing is the federal legalization of cannabis. I am addressing the ethnobotanic aspects of the plant as well as the current landscape of legality in the United States of America. The motivation behind my thesis is that I am very interested in the application of the plant and the wrongful scheduling set by forced lobbying and fear mongering in the country’s past. I found my sources through deliberate research on search engines and the New School’s various accessible databases (Gale, Pro-quest). I followed my curiosity by doing more and more research. Cornell’s work was really interesting, because it showed me how 3 dimensional planar surfaces can have resonating effects on what’s supposed to be seen by the viewer on a 2 dimensional plane. What I mean by that is the shadows created by the sides of the boxes were intentional and very much a part of the visual experience of the artwork. For this bridge 3, I am planning on/did 6 digital posts done analog defined by the framework of instagram’s camera.
