Bridge 5 Reflection Part 2

B5 – REFLECTING ON YOUR WORK

Instructions for Student: This reflection is a series of questions for you to answer about your work across first year. You will be asked to think about your learning during second semester, and to remember back to first semester as well.

This is your final assignment for Studio and Seminar and will count in both. The response needs to be posted to your ELP and a link uploaded to BOTH CANVAS ASSIGNMENTS – IN SEMINAR AND IN STUDIO.

Please choose one or more area of the class learnings and answer the following questions:

  1. What learning/ learning topic or learning process did you find yourself using throughout the semester?

I found myself using process awareness the most throughout the semester.

  1. Where did you use it (in life, in class, in other classes)?

I used it primarily in my class projects.

  1. What learning did you make about systems or strategies (in society, in making, in research, etc.) do you want to bring into your future semesters, dig into deeper, or explore with other people?

I would like to learn more about heuristic techniques in the future in order to condition my academic thought process.

4. What is one ah-ha that you had? What did you learn?

One ah-ha that I had was when I went on one of the derive walks. I learned that your environment is very influential in terms of someone’s behavior and thought process.

  1. Select two highlights from your first year. These highlights might consist of major projects or papers. A highlight could also be a productive class debate, a journal entry, a materials experiment, an illuminating course trip, or a new skill. This is a deep look at your work. One highlight is my visit to the Jewish Heritage museum. I also enjoyed the derive walks.
    1. Planning: Show your preparatory steps for both highlights. What initiated these? How did you plan for the different steps? How would you prepare differently next time? I prepared by packing my things and participating in class. There isn’t really a way I would prepare differently for doing the same things again; I am sure I would be thinking about different things though.
    2. Outcome: Show what was explored/ made/ written/ researched. Write a clear description of each item. Add media components (images, galleries, video, excerpts, etc.). The things that were explored during these processes are Jewish heritage and freeing the mind from psycho geographic routines.
  • Thinking: Show your thought process. What do these two highlights represent? Why are they important to your learning? What is most successful or interesting about this work?

My thought process is largely reliant on the way I draw. For most or all of my projects, I chose to use illustration as my preferred media. The drawings are reflections of my mental projections when thinking.

  1. If you could tell future students anything from what you learned during this year, what would it be? (Not just in this class – but overall in life about first year at college.)

If I could tell future students anything from what I learned during this year, it would be that life in New York City can be very hectic at times. Perseverance is necessary at certain moments and when dealing with a global pandemic, it can be even more difficult whether in NYC or out.

  1. Write a conclusion that looks toward future interests, questions, and courses. This is where you’re heading.
    1. What new questions do you want to pursue in the future? I would like to pursue the question of what I want to do for the rest of my life.
      1. How might one project generate another? One project might generate another through the subsequent project utilizing a visual quality from the previous one or a derivative idea.
      2. What new skills/techniques do you want to learn? I would like to learn more about formal illustration.
