Reimagining Times Square

Reimagining Times Square Project

I was mostly inspired by these three paintings because of their use of color. All of them, especially the first two paintings consist of pastel colors and are very solid. I wanted to incorporate that into my drawing.

Point Perspective Photoshop Sketches

The first image is one point perspective, the second one (right) is three-point perspective and the one below is two point perspective. For my project, I was mostly inspired by the one point perspective image.

Photos of Times Square:

When I was walking around Times Square I really liked going on top of the stairs and see Times Square as a whole. I could see all the lights and the buildings and in a very crowded place, I almost felt very free because there was so much space around me to look at. That’s why I wanted to incorporate that feeling into my own drawing and took a lot of pictures when I was on the stairs (the second picture on the left.) I think the stairs in Times Square was my biggest inspiration.

Line Drawing of Times Square:

The concept that I chose for my the reimagining of Times Square, I wanted to do something fun and colorful. At first, I thought about doing Times Square as an underwater world but when I thought about how to do it, the pictures of my favorite childhood animation came to my mind: Spongebob Squarepants. And then I thought about how Times Square would look like if it had buildings of the animation tv show that I watched as a child. I started drawing from my mind and also looked at some of the pictures from the internet to get inspired. Some of these buildings I drew are from the tv show and some I imagined myself. After I was done with the line work, I started thinking about incorporating live animals to it so I made sure to put some space in places for them.

For the final piece, I decided to incorporate the colors I was inspired by the Moma visit, pastel, and solid colors. I also added live looking pictures of sea animals and I was inspired by the Spongebob episodes where real animals are played in an animated environment. I was also inspired by the one point perspective picture I took from the stairs and used the same structure.
