Happy

For this project, in drawing and imaging class, we have received a set of instructions that are written by one of our classmates. After, we need to follow what the instruction have said and go to the site to make the work that the instruction has asked you to form.

For me, I got an instruction that asks me to use Christmas edition Starbucks paper cups that you may be found from the floor of the Union Square Park and form the cups to the word “happy”. After, find branches to attach them to the tree in Union Square Park. However, when I went to the park, because of the preparation of holiday market, there are places that can not be let in. Also, there were no paper cups, therefore I used materials that were approachable and good quantities to replace paper cups. I made two different “Happy” in different locations within the park, depending on their materiality. One is made out of leaves, so I put on the wooden bench, which makes the theme nature. For my other “Happy”, I used Amazon cupboard boxes that I found and placed it on a metal stool to convey industrialism.

Overall, I think it is hard to maintain the word you make, especially if the materials you use are fragile and there are limited materials that you can find, so you have to think through well. I think this project not only let you make the artwork, but it is also some sort of performance art since the process of thinking while making and trying to maintain your work is the key in this project.
