LP Post #2-Gender Ad

This fashion advertisement was by Diesel in 2015 and this brand’s marketing for this advertisement was to convey gender neutral. For most fashion brands, clothing is separated into women and men’s clothing; there are unisex fashion brands as well. For Diesel, this brand also has two clothing lines, one for women and one for men, however, in this advertisement, the two models are wearing the same outfit. This ad shows two people not only wearing the same outfit but also we can not find out their biological gender by visually seeing their faces. Moreover, it goes against the traditional way of seeing genders; going against the gender nonacceptance in the past, where “in the 1970s…an important distinction between sex (as a biological construct male versus female) and gender ( as a social construct: masculinity versus femininity).”^1  In this ad, the models can be in any gender, on the other hand, the models are neither sexes. The model has the same body features and same hairstyles with same clothings which become gender neutral ( there is no versus or two different categories to fit in). It is a more diverse concept, which also fits into the diversity in gender, race, and culture which we have and are opened now.
