Final Paper Topic Proposal

The Schiaparelli hats were a collaboration between Schiaparelli and Salvador Dali. This collection was from 1937 and the designer brings surrealism into her fashion design. On the right, it is the lobster dress in collaboration between Schiaparelli and Salvador Dali too. It was from the 1937 collection and it was inspired by Dali’s lobster phone. Both of the designs are surreal and see fashion as art rather than only fashion itself. I can not decide which one to chose yet, therefore I put both images up and will decide later. Myself is really into fine art and I do fine arts in my own time, therefore I am interested in these collaborations. I personally see fashion as another canvas for fine art, as result I would like to research this dress and both of the artists.

Designs by Sonia Rykiel and it is from the 1972 collection. The designs are designed in the same period as Kenzo Takada. She uses stripes and curled textures, also she played with layering, for example, the knitted cardigan over a tighten skinny sweater. She uses lighter tones as well, like pastel blue, white and so on. She had more fun when designing for teenagers. I am interested in this image because of the style, which relates to what I am doing. Currently, I like more youthful designs and silhouettes that are more childlike, resulting in my interest in these designs.

The two outfits are from autumn and winter collection from Kenzo and it is from the 1971 collection. The designer was  Kenzo Takada and at the time some designer started to design clothing that lasts more years rather than seasonal. Also, the color palettes were bright and it was targeted for the young. More so, the platform mule shoes that he designed at the time, and it may cause ankle injuries. I find this image interesting because it is my current aesthetics on designs, which is interested in designs that are child-like and fun. Furthermore, the clothing designs are more versatile and focus on textiles. As my designs’ silhouettes and print textiles are childlike, this image helps me to do further research for inspiration and have a better basic knowledge of childlike designs in the past for adults/ teenagers.
