Drawing from a live nude model was a completely new experience for me. I had never done anything like it before. I found it challenging in the beginning as I have never been confident drawing the human form, specially facial features, hands and feet. However, a few sessions in, I feel like I got a hand of it and actually started enjoying myself. Drawing with marks and blind contouring were interesting techniques that I’m glad I got to try my hand at. Analysing proportions as well as shortening of the body in different positions was eye opening. Overall, I am glad I didn’t shy away from making mistakes as it only made my sketching a tad bit better by the last session!
We started to work with contours and then moved onto using only marks to develop the shape of the body. Next we went onto correcting proportions by measuring “how many heads long the body was”. Then we tried blind contours without lifting our pens and lastly on details such as perfecting facial features and hair texture.
