Sculptural response to ‘Basic Observations’

For this assignment we were asked to read a chapter called Basic Observations from the book Experiencing Architecture. The part of the text that stood out to me was about softness and hardness as well as change in textures of materials. While some materials are smooth and malleable others are rough and hard to mould. I decided to use paper in combination with cardboard to make Platonic solids. I created different scales of cubes and tetrahedrons as they are the most primitive geometric elements that create larger structures. Since we were only allowed to use mechanical joints I sewed thread, used brass fasteners as well as simple origami to attach the structure. Lastly the structure was inspired from the texture of a plastic crate from my haptic archive.
