Assignment #11 -Change what appeared to be fixed

The object I chose to investigate was a silver coin ingraved with a Hindu Goddess- Laxmi. I chose to firstly make my object a wearable necklace. Upon discussing it with my peers I decided I would remake the coin in a lighter material so that its comfortable for the person wearing it. The rope is supposed to impersonate thread. Feedback from my peers got me thinking to change the shape of the object to a traditional circle instead of a square for aesthetic reasons. Thus my new version of the object had a vastly different design and purpose compared to the original. It could now be worn instead of carried thus reducing the chances of loosing it.

This exercise got me thinking about age variety of ways an object can be redesigned or remade. Prototyping was essential to check the durability of the size, shape and material. Discussion and brainstorming lead to questions regarding certain decisions and development of of the overall design. Overall, even though the square coin was doing it’s job this revised version is more efficient for the user.
