Bridge 3

For the first step of Bridge 3 I made a 2D mind map that traced all the aspects of the neighbourhood. Including, housing, roads, development community activities, hygiene and sanitation etc. After analysing these issues I chose to represent them in the form of a 3D model using board game pieces to emulate the neighbourhood layout and people residing there.

For the second step, the three problems that I showed were firstly- the amount of trash (black rubbish bags) piled up and lined outside the houses. I represented the trash with scarps of black paper. Secondly, I noticed a problem with the traffic congestion outside the most visited and busy places such as churches and high schools. When the buildings are opposite eachother it blocks the traffic and makes it hard for pedestrians to cross the roads. The situation is even worse with strollers and pet dogs. I represented the cars with the help of bright pink vehicles. Thirdly I noticed the emptiness and lack of activity in the parks, gardens and all green spaces in general. Even though there only a limited number of parks even those do not have as many amenities such as swing sets and play areas or benches for the visitors.

Reflection- Much to my surprise, I really enjoyed laying out my thoughts on the mind map and then transforming my findings into the final structure. It was exciting to find small game pieces to represent the neighbourhood elements and characteristics. Overall it was time taking but a rewarding project.
