Response to – BareFoot Artist: Lilly Yeh

This my artistic response to the documentary BareFoot Artist: Lilly Yeh. I was inspired by the technique of photomontage/collage as developed by Romare Bearden and adopted it in my own style.

Process reflection- I relate to Lily Yeh on a personal level. I am inspired by her persevearce and her ideology that brings people together in a creative way. My response to her social service involves two main aspects- community and art. I chose images and placed them in such a way that they told a story. The top half of the collage talks about collective unity and the coming together of various races, religions, genders etc. The lower half is supposed to resemble world affairs and issues that need to be tackled with. Art as a creative form can ease the tension of these problems. Since we are on a time crunch making an in dent using any tool or technique is beneficial. Metaphorically like the blending of paint, communities can merge to form a strong force. Just as Lilly Yeh did, I hope for my background and past experiences to propel me to do great things for my society and nation.
