Systems and Strategies

Field trip to Cooper Hewitt

We visited the museum with Matthew to see the special exhibition exploring color called “Saturated: The Allure and Science of Color”. It was informative and interactive. The museum had historic and contemporary design. My favorite artwork was the “The Color of Landscapes”, which was a red, blue and green wallpapers designed by Carnovsky, a Milan based design studio. It remined me of my system, Instagram, because of the colors. The design has three patterns printed on top of each other. With different set of lighting, different patterns or images showed up. One was an architectural interior with a lone figure. Another had a landscape with a horse driven cart in a forest. The last one had dense figures. It was so Instagram-able according to me. I also took a picture and a video of this art work. Instagram as a system can be very deceiving because of the flawed perfection each of us aim to achieve for our online avatars. This artwork seemed very deceiving too. With just change in light, there was change in perception.
