The assignment:
For this assignment we were required to choose a previous figure sketch that we had done in class and a sketch of three stools. We later collaged these two drawings together and then focused on the spaces between our figures. This project taught us about negative space and creating forms out of shapes instead of lines.
Sketches And Collage:
Here I choose a figure with a large gesture and layered my stools over it so that there would be many different shapes to work with. We drew this figure in class, working from a live model, and our teacher had set up a still life of the stools for us to draw. I chose pencil for both drawings.
Scanned Combo Composition:
In photoshop we took our scanned collage and played with scale, rotation, position, and cropping. We made sure that our negative and positive space equaled out to be 50/50 so that we would have a good amount of unique shapes.
Ambiguous Figure:
We used the same shapes to create 2 compositions, one with a white figure on a black background and another in which the figure and ground were supposed to be ambiguous. I learned from this project how to use different tools in illustrator.
