Core Studio 3D: Toys

This is the final cast of my toy. I started with a sketch of a creature I like to think of as half architecture and half bat. I then molded a model of the character in Sculpey and baked it. I had silicone from a few months ago and I used that to create a mold of my character. The problem was the silicone I had was past its shelf life so it never completely hardened. This made it difficult to get casts out of the mold. I did a cast in plaster and unfortunately, a leg cracked off when demolding it. I tried to do a cast in Jello but I wasn’t able to get the cast out of the mold. I think what I will have to do is cut the mold so it is one-sided and can easily eject casts. But overall it was a good learning experience, it was the first time I had worked with silicone (I usually use alginate) and I think I will utilize this process in the future. It was fun to create duplicates of my character, I think toy design would be a very fun path to pursue.
