Bridge Project #3: Colour & Convergence Final

Personal Proposal

When discovering my thoughts when thinking of the colour red, many images entered my mind. However, the couple things that stuck in my head were my days in Paris, my daily coffee in the early mornings in cafes with red straw like chairs and beaming red rain covers. The menus are usually a deep bordeaux colour, fraying at the edges. This reminds me of my happiest moments with family and friends, incorporating not only the idea of red in these cafes but also a french national tradition; the art of gastronomy. Wine and food is a huge part of french culture, including how to taste, differentiate and appreciate wine. This also comes into mind when thinking of the colour red, learning about wine’s history, its production and it’s taste to having a convivial moment with friends and family.

Regarding my thoughts above, I decided to speak in French while describing a typical day, from the café in the morning with a coffee, to a convivial moment with friends enjoying fine wine and typical french food. Although this lifestyle is very different to that in Hong Kong, where I grew up or New York, it was my life when I was in France, and also my routine whenever I visit. Therefore, the colour red reminds me of warmth, family and love especially the romantic connotations with the colour red. The photo also directly relates to my memory, as I reminisce about these moments all the time, thinking of my family friends and those I know and love back in France. My audio ties in with the other audios as it was a nostalgic reminder of home tying in the diverging cultures, traditions, practices and upbringings of those in my group. Although we are all very different, it seemed that the feeling of love, family and nostalgia was prevalent throughout the audio documentary.
