Final Garment: Soft Structures

For soft structures I made a zero waste garment that was a dress with a tie. I used folds and pleating to make it fit better and not be a sack. I used a woven crepe which was perfect for my light and summery dress. This is my swatch board with fabrics that I had picked that I really liked

I practiced making my garment in muslin first so I could ease out any problems I had and fix it before I start with the nice fabric.

After most of the real one was finished I put it on the form to test for fit. It fit well, but I needed to redo the belt and hand stitch the hem. I felt confident and I liked how it looked.

Here are some up close details of my hand stitched hem, and my extended pleats on the front. I think these elements came out very nice and I am proud that they look so clean.

I also French seamed the entire inside which was good to do because my fabric frayed easily.

Finally, it was ready to be worn and when all was finished I had a cute summer dress that could be worn in various ways. I prefer it with the belt on but it would be comfortable as a loose dress as well.
