For my Narrative Self project, I wanted to focus on the closest extension of myself which is my mother and my grandfather. Although I never met my grandfather as he died when my mom was only 13 years old, I have always felt a very strong connection to who he is and how he led his life while he was still here. I gathered archived pictures of him while he graduated with a PhD, as a professor at Duquesne University, and my mother when she was a young child, in college and then as a mother to me. Showing these visuals of my family expresses the connection I feel that is beyond just a self portrait. I wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for these two individuals.
