Drawing/Imaging: Gold Digger Montage

The song that I chose for this project is called “Gold Digger” by Kanye West. This was one of my favorite songs when I was younger therefore for this montage, I wanted to explore something that brought back good memories. Since this song mainly revolves around the concept of money, I made sure that my 5-7 images symbolized wealth and high social class. This way, my audience would automatically become aware of the theme of the montage.

Rolex Drawing:
The medium that I used were only 3 primary coloring pencils: red, blue and yellow. It was my first time using coloring pencils as a medium for my drawing. Although I found it very challenging to blend in the colors together, I enjoyed the experience of trying something new. I liked the overall result however I need to practice more so that my skills enhance.

Hand Painting:
The medium that I used for this artwork was watercolor. I preferred this medium over the coloring pencils because I found it easier to blend the colors through the use of water. I could also easily erase any mistakes using a wet sponge. The main colors I used to create a skin-like colour was red and yellow however to add shadow in some areas, I added a tint of blue. I was very happy with the outcome of this artwork as I accomplished my goal by making it look realistic.

Final Gold Digger Montage:

The software that I used to make this montage was Photoshop Adobe. This montage mainly consists of extremely wealthy items which was purposely done to give off its theme. The woman dressed as a Gold Digger was placed in the center of the artwork so that it would be the first thing my audience would notice. It is the main statement of this piece. She also stands out because the opacity was 100%. The tools that I used to crop the images were mainly the magnetic lasso tool and the magic wand. I edited each image by using contrast, brightness, saturation and hue, I blended the images using the “multiply” and “dissolve” filters. Overall however, the main filter that I used was “Multiply” so that it all equally blends which in my opinion would be more aesthetically pleasing to the eye.

This was also a new experience to me because it was my first time to use photoshop and I absolutely loved it. Although there are abundant of tools and techniques that photoshop offers, this project taught me how to use the main tools and techniques such as masking, cropping, filtering and cloning and many more.  To conclude, although this project was quite challenging due to new experiences, it taught me a lot of skills and techniques which would help me for future purposes.
