Space and Materiality: Monument

For this project I wanted to dedicate this monument to my mother. I used my professors hands to mimic my mothers hands. I was inspired by Michelangelo’s piece on the Sistine Chapel, “Creation of Adam”. I tried to re-make the hands of Adam and God. I used Alginate and pottery powder. I used alginate to make the mold of the two hands. Because I tried to get the wrist as well it was hard to find the correct container for the hands. Therefore, I used extra pieces of already molded alginate to make push the mold up. I also used a metal tin board to create more length. After the mold dried, I used pottery plaster powder to create the monument. Then I cut wood to create the frame. I didnt want to put a cover for the box because I thought it looked interesting without a roof.
