Bridge 3

Memory Box (Plexi glass, clay, wood, wood stainer, paint)

This project was the culmination of weeks of work and multiple parts. First, our group went to Grand Central Station and interviewed random strangers by asking them 10 basic questions, 7 of which were given to us by our professors and the other 3 we came up with. After these interviews, we combined two of the people we interviewed-a tourist from Tel Aviv and a construction worker. From there, we created a story revolving around a construction worker from Tel Aviv who had escaped his home from the 1940 bombing of Tel Aviv, leaving behind his family in his escape. He then arrives in New York, working to start a new life and prepare for his family’s arrival, ending with a cliff hanger that leaves the reader not knowing if his family arrives or not.

To create our memory box, we worked to create a blend of Tel Aviv and Grand Central. The paint freckled paint worked to resemble the marble of grand central and the crater and broken glass around the edge resemble the fate of Tel Aviv in 1940. The clay objects inside the box resemble items that are important to our character: a hammer, boots, and hard hats.
