PROJECT#2 – Body Transformation

Research:-

The history of wearable technology starts with the watch, which was worn by people to tell time. In 1500 the German inventor Peter Henlein created small watches which were worn as necklaces. A century later, men began to carry their watches in their pockets as the waistcoat became a fashionable item, which led to the creation of pocket watches. Wristwatches were also created in the late 1600s but were worn mostly by women as bracelets. Over time, the watch become smaller and more precise. People started to create wearables to use in every occasion, from tools that help them win in gambling games, to rings used as a computational device by traders, to electronic headbands used as a costume in theaters, and a wearable camera strapped to a bird to take aerial photos, among others.Wearable technology has a variety of applications which grows as the field itself expands. It appears prominently in consumer electronics with the popularization of the smartwatch and activity tracker. Apart from commercial uses, wearable technology is being incorporated into navigation systems, advanced textiles, and healthcare.

Rough Design:-

Mood Board, Idea & Inspiration ( first idea as well as the change in the idea)

I was inspired by the hawkers in India who wear trays and sell stuff. Even the artists who use apron to keep brushes.

REFLECTION & PROCESS :-

This is one of the projects and/ or assignment that I really enjoyed. I liked this assignment because till the very last moment I kept on learning new things. Another reason I enjoyed could be that I choose a design which felt interesting to me. I really liked the fact that I spent time in the wood shop. For this Project I used a wood plank. There are 5 wooden rings 2 of them are 4 inches and 2 of them are 3 inches and the center one is 7 inches big. The dimensions of the plank is 13.5*9.5*0.5 inches. One can keep a paint palette and brush holders etc. while painting. I have used a sling which goes around your neck to hold the plank. At curve I have put two hooks that can hold the plank to the persons waist. As a design element and as a boundary I have used a very thin kind of wood. Which looks like house fence. Materials used were wood, paint, nails, drill machine, hammer, plier etc. I am pretty happy with the result but as always I am looking forward to the critique where in I can learn more about my mistakes and my plus points. I really appreciate the comments my peers give as well as the professor.
