Bridge 1: Project Statement February 2019

BRIDGE 1 STUDIO

PROJECT STATEMENT

Through my artworks I chose to emulate the sensations that sprung within me throughout my endeavors while in Union Square. I chose five key words that would translate into iterations of art. My lonely, isolated, overwhelmed, chaotic yet peaceful experience made the portrayal of artwork that much more effective. I am sharing these emotions through two principal colors: black and white. This is in effort to shed light on the contrasting effects as well as simplicity of these emotions in such a busy world. I decided to use simple shapes in this because this was a very hard process for me to figure out how to express my feelings with artwork.

The architecture instillation I studied in Union Square Park was something that felt very lonely to me. Union Square is a huge epicenter for commuters in this city, people pass by on their way, some eat, some walk to come to get to the subway stop. But what I did notice is that during the day, no one seemed to be paying any attention to anything above or below their eye level or more importantly what was on their phone. Everyone was rushing.

My Observations from USQ Park on 02.02.2019

It is freezing outside. It is quiet. Everyone is walking, racing to be on their way. The presence of people in this area, though being a communal space, presents them all together yet all still living in a world of their own. Union Square Park is a space where people isolate within the colossal noise of the city to get a hint of peace. Among the peace, a cold breeze blows through the air which results in chaotic behavior and quivering sensations trough those who make the space.

While in a hectic city a staple piece of artwork is projected in the corner view of a building. The atmosphere surrounding is impartial to the work of art. From my perspective, in a state of hold, one can appreciate greatly the beauty of a piece among dullness.
