Hilma af Klint – Happiness

Today I sat and I reflected and I just felt happy. I had no worries. I just felt content.

Last month I went to see Hilma af Klint and I was amazed by her work and her story. I am not sure how/why I made the connection between the two now, but as I was going through her show at the Guggenheim I felt that her artwork was very spiritual and meaningful. But after I sat and took time to reflect on myself today I was thinking about how, without any reference or background information about Hilma or her story, the paintings are just very happy and whimsical paintings.

Here is a short paragraph from Hilma Af Klint’s biography “The ambition of Hilma af Klint was to develop an artistic relation to her esoteric material, by means of an inner, spiritual maturity, and to express this in her paintings. Hilma af Klint was balancing on the edge, having to regulate inner impulses and at the same expressing them in her artistic work. Her professional ability, developed during her studies, and after working more than 20 years as an established conventional painter, was a requirement for her to succeed. She had at hand the tools necessary for concretizing her ambition.”  (https://www.hilmaafklint.se/about-hilma-af-klint/)
