Bridge 3: Project Statement

Thesis Statement: If we become clear on what the motives are for terrorism in the Middle East and divorce those from Islam then perhaps there would be no such thing as Islamophobia.

My motivation for my thesis statement sparked when we discussed in studio things that interest us. Every morning on my way to class or while I get ready for the day I listen to NPR’s morning show. Around twice a week there are headline stories about Al Queda or ISIS or the Islamic Nationalist State or something else related to terror in the Middle East. It sparks my interest because the relationship between religion and terrorism are two things that are very hard and complex to understand. I found a lot of great book sources in the library on Islamophobia, personal victims of it and what it actually is. For my visual representation of my sources I decided to humanize Islamophobia. I chose to break the glass on the case to show the breaking of this stereotype and inside I put different spices and cooking ingredients. I chose spices, teas, lavender, oats, etc. to represent people. We all eat, we all cook (well maybe not some of us), and we are all human.
