Excitement – Susan Stillman

In the past few days the weather in this city has gone from being chilly and dark to warm and bright. I am really excited about spending more time outdoors. I love that I can go outside without 4 layers on and a heavy jacket! In the beginning of this semester my Drawing and Imaging teacher showed us some of her artwork and she is very talented at painting ‘outdoor-scapes’ so I connected my excitement for this weather to some of her outdoor paintings which have a lot of light and color in them.

“Susan Stillman holds a BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design, and an MFA from Brooklyn College. She spent a year in Rome studying painting in RISD’s European Honors Program. A life-long educator, Stillman has been a faculty member at Parsons School of Design since 1983.” https://susanstillmanfineart.com/bio

“The landscape I see every day shapes my work in paint. It’s a foundation from which to explore the relationships of the natural to the man-made. The views from my windows high on the hill, and my daily walks in all seasons feed my preoccupation with light and the way it effects change in color and tonalities.” https://susanstillmanfineart.com/artists-statement
