Altered Clothing

Each of the 17 student in S&M class designed their own clothing alteration and discussed the placement of each’s design. After finalizing the placement, each student signed up for a 4 day time slot to alter all 17 t-shirts and scheduled to finish all designs by the end of the semester.

 My inspiration  : mirror

My idea comes from self-image, something that everything thinks about and some stresses about. Sometimes we focus too much on the otter beauty and ignore the more important part which is who we are on the inside. Therefore I chose to use mirror, a medium that let people see their appereances clearly and choose to deal with their image the way they want. The mirror is used in a critical way because I always think about human are not designed to be able to look at themselves, at least their faces. In the natural world, there’s nothing that acts like a mirror and even the image we see through a man-made mirror is flipped. A human being can never see the real self directly like another person see them, not without any reflecting or recording device.  With that intention I sewed mirrors on the back of each person’s shirt, making the mirror unfunctional for the person wearing the shirt but functional for others.
