3. WRITTEN REFLECTION:
Hoodformation
I chose to deconstruct the t-shirt since it was “left-overs” from my previous studio class. I was only going to make one t-shirt in that class. However, I bought three of them, and I thought it would be a perfect wearable to deconstruct and I will not regret or feel wrong about. Moreover, the hoodie that deconstructed was old, and I wanted to transform it into something new that I can still wear. Both of the garments are made of cotton; it is a very stretchy material, which made the pattern making process and the cutting process kind of hard. I feel like the most challenging part of this project is not sewing the fabrics together, but making patterns out of the deconstructed material, since the materials are stretchy. It is hard to stabilize the material, and hard to push the pins through the fabric and pattern paper. Hence making this process of pattern making the most time-consuming part of this project. On the other hand, the most enjoyable part would be sewing the fabrics together, since I love using industrial machines. I was most satisfied with one of my sleeves. It was hard to put back the sleeves, and I thought that managed to put back one of the sleeves perfectly, and messed up the other one. The most surprising part of the project is still the sleeve since I thought t-shirt simple to make, however, I struggled a lot with the sleeves. From the project, I learned that I actually like sewing materials together, and can make a pattern by my self, and form a complete garment by myself. I am still learning, but I felt proud when I was done with the t-shirt. This project makes me feel the hardness of constructing a design, it made me realize that sometimes different fabrics can affect the design, and some fabrics are not suited for that certain design,
