Drawing/Imaging: Shape Relationships

Questions for review:

  1. Discuss the process of each project – I folded/cut the origami paper into triangles, hexagons, squares multiple times until I had a large collection of each shape in various shapes and sizes. From that collection, I took shapes that complimented each other in color and arranged them using the different shape relationships we learned in class. For some panels, I decided to cut a shape within a shape to create a more interesting composition. After planning out each composition, I glued them on to a 5×5 Bristol board square. Then, I taped the panels together with artist tape to make an accordion book. After done this, I transferred these shape relationships digitally through the use of Illustrator. From those Illustrator files, I placed the designs into different products.
  2. What did you learn from the project? – What I learned from this project is how to make interesting compositions by only using shapes and the way you arrange them. This project required me to think in a way that I haven’t before compared to the crowd scene. I had to show my personality through only the use of shapes and colors. Also, through the use of shape relationships I learned a more intuitive way to create designs that can be used a plethora of designs.
  3. What would you do different if you were to redo it? – If I were to redo this project, I would continue to play with these compositions more. I enjoyed cutting out shapes within shapes, but I feel I could have still been even more abstract with them. I will also try different products to place the designs on.
