Project Ideas
I am going to explore portraiture using the method I’ve used for a couple projects in the class already; the crystal. I really enjoy creating an image that feels like a balance between feelings of lightness and darkness, all incorporated in the human form. The reason I enjoy using the crystal is because it takes away a certain amount of planned control while shooting, and gives the photographer the opportunity to capture a seemingly distorted image without being able to pick and choose the type of distortion; making way for something that can only be described as a gift to the photographer.
I envision this project looking similar to the recent photos I took, though I want to further the practice I am developing around shooting to create deeper hidden meanings that are open to interpretation for the viewer.
This idea is deriving from a conversation. This is a conversation I have with the space I am in, and the language is the medium. I tend to do art because I am inspired by something in my real life experience, and without trying to recreate it I try to see what gets created out of the inspiration. In every instance, I can look back at my work and suddenly I understand it; almost like after its done it can speak to me, and I can learn something from it.
I would like to create a feeling similar to Keith Carter’s images, they often have an etherial quality that I am drawn to.
