Integrative Studio Final Project Progress

I had an original idea for the project but then it got changed. For the sake of showing my progress, I am going to post the original idea proposal and then talk about the new idea.

Working Title: Stopping Testing on Animals Samantha Sybo
Integrative Studio 2: Visual Culture Concept:

Two mixed media posters done in a PSA / Protest style. I would do mixed media and photograph my cats for the base images then collage “makeup” and text onto them using patterned/glittery/plain scrapbook paper. I noticed most forms of protest of animal testing were done in an extreme way and wanted to make them more approachable to see.

Timeline for project:
4/6-4/13: Collect materials (order scrapbook paper)
4/13-4/20: Photograph base pictures of cats (editing and color corrections in lightroom) 4/20-4/27: Cut out collage aspects and assemble
4/27-5/4: Photograph the pieces to turn in
Side note: I assume this will be completed a bit prior to the due date of May 11th.

Materials Needed / On Hand:

– Scrapbook paper (the only thing that isn’t on hand)
– Images printed out 8.5 x 11
– Glue / Tape
– Scissors and x-acto knife with cutting mat
Scale and quantity:
– Two pieces, both 8.5in x 11in.

Sketches / Imagery:

That concept was not strong enough though so I changed the idea. I’m now doing a photography project based on making a faux beauty ad to call out Maybelline for still testing on animals for their cosmetics. I began by doing a test shoot of my cat. I wanted to sit her amongst many objects that are involved in the testing of animals as well as cosmetics themselves. Here you’ll see her sitting amongst test tubes, syringes (unused with no needles of course), and makeup and makeup brushes. I added the Maybelline logo as well, with some text to help the viewer see the context.
