Integrated Studio 2: Fashion – LP Post: Fabric Manipulation Technique & Application

1.  Include a link to a “how to” video or a graphic about ONE technique that you studied. Explain why you like this technique. One paragraph.

Block 8: Undulating tucks – Textured quilt sampler tutorial

I like the “undulating tucks” technique because of the beautiful waves it forms on the fabrics. It looks like there is fabric moving in different directions on one piece of fabric, making it very satisfying to see the shadows go from one side to the other side of the seams. From the different kinds of undulating tucks I’ve seen, some look very soft and wavy in “U” shaped waves, while others have more dimension, making it look very skeletal. The folds that change the direction of the wave are very softly done in a subtle manner that looks very effortless and clean.

2.  Include one example of a garment that uses fabric manipulation. Explain how the manipulation technique is key in the design. One paragraph.

This is one garment that uses fabric manipulation to make a unique piece. Manipulation is key in the design because it individualizes that design from another. Fabric manipulation adds as an important part of a garment, making the embellishments become something unique and interesting for consumers and viewers. Along with the personalized and unique creation of fabric manipulation, it also forms new ideas and concepts that maybe other designers did not think of making. It produces new textiles, new forms of fabric, making it an art itself.
