Make them Backtrack

The goal of Make Them Backtrack was to create a minigame in Unity that would force the player to backtrack in some fashion.  Be it conceptually or literally.  I decided to take a literal approach to the prompt with my game “The Living Maze”.  The concept of the game is a simple one, get to the end of the map and pick up the item.  However, as a twist, I created a series of 10 objects that would move around the walls of the maze.  This would cause people to have to try and make their way from the beginning to the end while trying to find the way out.  Once they grabbed the object at the end, they would win.

Playtest Reports:

The playtests have mostly been positive.  The first playtest was on the 7th of November, where I had my controls and a few walls working, but had a problem with the camera where it would topple over if the player hit a wall.  On the 20th of November, I fixed this issue, and gameplay was much better, according to the playtesters, but coding the walls were taking too long and by the 5th of December, I replaced the system with animations, only to go back to the old system as I found it more interesting and others said it was interesting to not know where they were going and what was being moved.  Finally, the next day, I decided to create a demo level so that the player could learn the mechanics before they got into the main stage.
