I remember my sister buying a pencil case shaped like a bunny doll. It was so fluffy, pink, and had adorable black eyes. My sister was so happy about her new cute doll, but soon after, the pencil case was rolling around the floor of her room.

Why was that pencilcase used for such a short time by my sister? It is because the pencil case did not do its primary function – storing pencils and pens needed for students. Because of its stomache full of cotton balls, only three short pencils were able to fit in the pencil case, not even a single eraser, making my sister abandon it eventually.

A good design is supposed to be functional and effective. In my first idea of the final project, I plan to criticize the designs that do not do its original function – there are countless examples that we can find around the world that is pretty but useless. La duree’s rose petal blusher is another example too. It is gorgeous in its appearance, but barely shows its color when actually applied on skin.

In seminar paper I am planning to categorize different methods of criticisms that are used in modern art. In my studio project, I will use ‘exaggeration’ from those categories, which will be defined as ‘criticism done by exaggerating the negative element of something to the most  in order to deliver the message that the element is in fact bad’.
