Seminar Curiosity Journal

Tuesday:

This assignment is really funny to me because so many of my friends do a bullet journal! Some are cute like they’ll doodle and make it very decorative and some of them just use it to organize but I almost got one before leaving North Carolina (home), but I didn’t because… I didn’t want to be …….. basic……!!

My friend showed me her bullet journal over FaceTime and she told me about how she puts quotes in it and she told me a quote that I LOVED that she is planning to write:

THE WORLD IS CHANGED BY YOUR EXAMPLE NOT YOUR OPINION

I am seriously going to try and live by this which is why I donated to the American National Parks Foundation today. I donated 20$ to the fund to restore the parks. I know 20$ isn’t a lot but I have been so upset over 1. The government shutdown shutting down the parks (don’t even get me started on how bad this is), 2. climate change destroying multiple of the parks- especially glacier national park which is expected to disappear in the next 10 years, and 3. I just get annoyed that people don’t care about the National Parks and that the funding is being cut constantly for them. </3

This quote totally inspired me to actually do something and act on my opinions. I chose to write on this/ record it because I am just so in love with it. I feel like its an obvious thing to do and like I shouldn’t be so impacted but it was a good reminder to see it, especially because I keep saying I’m going to do something fun and then blow it off for nonsense reasons. So this quote really was an inspirational reminder to live in action and example not opinion.

Wednesday:

I was watching Modern Family today and I came across the episode where Jay has to make a video on what drives him for a titans of industry award. He gives the following speech:

“After 30 years and over 100,000 hanger rods installed, some people would kick back and relax. Not me, I’m Jay Pritchett”,

Which inspired me to write my own version:

“After 18 years and over 100,000 hanging-myself jokes made, some people would kick back and relax. Not me, I’m Signe Healy”.

While I would never actually hang myself and I probably haven’t made one hundred THOUSAND jokes about it (more like one hundred), I just thought it was funny.

Speaking of hanging, something I do everyday that excites me (and low-key scares me) is listen to the podcast My Favorite Murder and it inspires me a lot, weirdly. Last semester I did a project on the Golden State Killer which was really fun and exciting because I loved researching it and making it. On the episode I listened to today, a listener wrote in about a murder in their hometown where a murderer was hanged in the prison in the 80’s which was the first hanging in like a solid 2 decades. The murderer requested the hanging, which 1! why! 2. I don’t think they said he had a death sentence, just life in prison, so I think its really insane that he was even granted this request. He was in jail because he stabbed two children to death in a park and its wayyyyyy better that he died for it than getting parole but I think it is CRAZY that they even grant requests like this to crazy murderer psychopaths.

Anyways, this isn’t super exciting but I am very very interested in crime and justice and its fascinating to me. It’s to the point that I tell my parents like daily that I am going to become an FBI/CIA/government agent lol whoops.

Thursday:

I saw the movie On the Basis of Sex with some of my family right before I left to come back to France and it was also SO GOOD.

1! Felicity Jones’s hair always looks so good !!! jealous !!!

2. Love some RBG and her story pre-supreme court was great to learn more about

3! THE OUTFITS

4! THE HAIR ACCESSORIES

3 and 4 were the most inspiring to me for sure lol. The mid/end of the movies outfits specifically were the best, like the beginning ones were good but not as good as the later styles to me. It’s the 70’s in the movies end and middle and the H A I R accessories were SO good. SO good. Like they all had the best headbands and hair bows and people just really know how to accessorize in the movie which was cool to see. All the men had hats which was nice and the girls had nice hair accessories and everyone had nice watches. I guess that spoke to me because I always wear headbands and such, so it was nice to see others with it. The colors and patterns of the 70’s are the BEST anyways so all the clothes were totally up my alley.

I love to watch any shows/movies set in the 70’s because of the clothes. That’s like at least 1/3 of the reason I watch so much of That 70’s Show, like it’s really funny, but Jackie freaking Burkhart’s clothes are AMAZING.

Ugh I love it

Back to point 2: RBG said “Women will have achieved true equality when men share with them the responsibility of bringing up the next generation” which is so inspirational. I don’t think that men have taken on this responsibility the same women have. If you think about it teachers really raise a generation and there are almost no male elementary school teachers!! Thats maybe a bigger issue but I don’t think men are equal yet in this way which is sad for men and women. Being a caretaker is amazing and men don’t take on the same parental duties, typically. They aren’t home as often, they don’t have the same paternal rights when taking care of an infant, they aren’t expected to nurture in the same way. Like I said, sad for men and women- women have a harder time getting jobs than men but men have harder times being a full-time parent than women. I don’t really know I don’t want to say anything like anti-feminist because I’m for sure a feminist but I’m just trying to explain why this quote was inspirational 🙂

Annnnnywaysss the movie was super inspiring clothing-wise as well as on a social level because RBG was seriously amazing for equality for women.

Friday:

Ugh today I’m so tired but I did get inspired by the color I decided to paint my nails. Sounds stupid but it’s such a nice deep green <3 <3 <3 <3

I love the color green and I think its pretty funny because at the beginning of this school year me and some of my classmates were like assigning personality colors and everyone like agreed on green for me? I’m also been in may when everything is green and blooming, as so I’m a taurus and its an earth sign and I associate green with earth and earth signs. Basically I just fins it funny how much I can be associated with green. OMG ! Also! My birthstone is an emerald which I have ALWAYS loved so my nails being this color makes me happy. The specific shade also kinda matches my eye color? Weird but I like it a lot 🙂

I don’t wear much green in my clothes even but it is such a nice color. I am very picky though with the shade because I like not very blue greens, like N O T sea foam which like everyone loves, but I like darker and more emerald or natural greens. I am starting to wear more green, like I went to a screw with my mom and ended up buying a cute green striped sweater and I got green corduroys for Christmas which I am OBSESSED with (partially bc corduroys and the fit but also the green).

So in summation, I love green, thank you and goodnight

Saturday:

7 rings!!!

Ariana Grande’s new song!!

I don’t love it!

but it did inspire me because I love love love engagement rings and thats basically what the whole sing was about- that and just being rich enough to buy them on a whim. GgGGooooAaaaALlllLLs for REAL sis

I kind of want to be a jewelry designer, I love gemstones and jewelry design so much and I’ve seen my mom kind of struggle to find something she wants for a ring and I just wish I could design it for her so it is just done and I can make something SO beautiful. I don’t own any super nice jewelry but I always take my moms out and its sooo amazing.

I would love to be Ariana and have the I want it I got it attitude and buy myself a freaking engagement ring whenever I want ughhh oh well hopefully one day I can have that type of income.

I think I would honestly use a family ring when I get married because I love my grandma’s diamond that my dad/mom inherited on my sisters and I behalf. She seriously owns all of THE most beautiful diamonds I have ever seen. I also think I would want some type of colored stone to set next to the main diamond. I don’t know which one but I think it can look really nice. I don’e know, I also love the just classic diamond ring.

I would love to be a jewelry designer too because I would be giving women rings and jewelry they have wanted and admired their whole lives. I think its so cool to be able to design something so precious for an individual. That’s why I like the idea of high end design for fashion more than everyday because its something special that people cherish and the average person only has one of, as opposed to designing everyday that doesn’t have meaning to most people.

Sunday:

Okay the new Mary Poppins Returns movie is soooo good, I love the soundtrack so much. Also I love the original Mary Poppins but I was just shocked with how good the second was <3 Also Emily Blunt is the most talent actress I’ve ever seen but I also love her husband John Krasinski because he’s Jim in The Office. ……if you haven’t picked up on it ……. I love TV and movies ……… low-key wish I was shorter so I could be an actress 🙁 …… oh well …………

The Oscar nominations just came out and thank god it was nominated for best costume-among other things- because the way the costumes were done was phenomenal!! If you haven’t seen it, I recommend it, but there is one event where the kids and Mary Poppins and Jack go into a Royal Dalton bowl and become animated, similar to the concept of jumping into the drawing to become animated in the original. The characters themselves aren’t animated but the surroundings are, like the original. The costumes fit SO flawlessly into the backgrounds because they made one plain silhouette and HAND-PAINTED the details on to mimic three dimensional movement/ruffles/pleats. It was seriously so beautiful and captivating and I was surprised at how well it could naturally incorporate the animation and the real actors.

The music and color palettes throughout from the cherry trees and spring motifs of the film, it really had beautiful pinks, pastels, and vibrancy.

I also LOVED the time period- the 30’s silhouettes and patterns were really beautiful and classyyyyyyy while still whimsical and magical.

I literally don’t know if this is the type of thing I should be writing about but it did inspire me 🙂
