Bridge 4 Reflection – May 2019

1 . What part of this project are you most proud of?

The use of shadow is a creative idea. The shadow of the sculpture shaped as a girl’s figure, while the audience couldn’t see the figure by just looking at the sculpture because I arranged the items representing the things that effect me in life in three dimensions instead of two dimensions . I did this with the intention of indicating the idea that we are impacted by the things that we went through without being aware of them. We couldn’t notice how commercials effect our consciousness, just like we couldn’t figure out what figurative object does the sculpture look like. However, when a light projects the shadow of the sculpture on the wall, a girl’s figure shows up; similarily, I noticed that how deeply I was effected by all the things happening in my life when I did the research. The metaphor that I used in this project is the part that I most proud of.

2. If you had all of the time and all of the money, what would you do differently?

I would fly back to Shanghai, where I grew up, grab all the personal items, and use them in my sculpture because it is more persuading to use the real items that I used and there are more stories behind them.

3. If you could rewind time for one month, what would you have done differently between Spring Break and now?

I would have prepare earlier and write a memoir about the things that happened in my life and influence me. It will be interesting and inspiring to have a look-back of my life, and I believe I will found out the things that I’ve never noticed. The memoir will also be helpful to this project and make it profounder.
