After watching different artist interviews and video promotions, I was able to decipher the difference between a good interview and a bad interview. The interview I chose to focus on was posted on Art 21 about artist Lynn Hershman Leeson’s. Lynn is an artist who focuses on different mediums, including painting, drawing, sculpture, interactive films, media works , and artificial intelligence.The interview was eye opening because it allowed me to not only view the artist at work, but also allowed me to get more of an incite on their vision, inspiration, and past experiences to get where she is now. Lynn discusses the hardships she would experience as a female artist in the 1970s, as well as how she got through it. This is all information that I would’ve never known unless the interview had taken place. The video interview also allows me to see the artist’s personality, which is an important aspect whenever I follow or support an artist’s work. In my opinion, being able to feel a connection to an artist through a video interview is incredibly important for both the viewer and the artist. This is truly what makes a good interview.
