Kalimba: The Crazy Zebra Mango Tokkie

This is my last project in Space class.

April 11, 2017.

I did not know what I will make. A pink rabbit in mystery.

April 14, 2017

We chose one of the options: hardwood thumbing surfaces, plaster bodies, ceramic bodies, vacuum plastic bodies, plywood bodies, and sheet metal bodies. (without any information 🙂

April 17, 2017

I made two different version of foams.

A rabbit and the first letter of rabbit in Korean; 토끼–>ㅌ

April 18, 2017

Unexpectedly, the Korean word for rabbit became a shape of Anakin Skywalker.

We tried to use the vacuum former.

However, I decided not to use version two, “ㅌ”

 Ceramic work

April 25, 2017

This is my first-time ceramic work and many things happened unexpectedly.

This was first firing work.

Woodwork

Zebra wood is strong, unique, and special.

I sanded the edges of the panels and glued three pieces of zebra woods.

April 28, 2017

After attaching, drew the rabbit face and cut the zebra wood.

I sanded the broken part of the tail on the rabbit, the edge which will be attached to the zebra wood, and the whole surface for glazing.

Glazing work

I chose mango orange color with crystal for glazing.

May 2, 2017

I cut the zebra wood and continued sanding with various tools.

Glazing was not perfect, and I decided to fire one more time.

May 5, 2017

Now I knew that it will be a musical instrument, and I needed to make holes.

I painted the metal stuff.

May 9, 2017

Using epoxy for combine the ceramic and the wood.
