Autobiographical Landscape

This is my final project in drawing class.  This piece connotes the entirety of what I’ve learned in drawing class in this semester such as still-life objects drawing, drawing figures, digitally combined landscape and figure drawings, linear perspectives, technicolor, portrait expression, structure, and convert self-portrait photography into vector images.

  1. Still-life Objects Drawing: this name of this flower is “Yulan.” It sounds similar to my name “Yula,” and also I like this flower. So I put my name into the petals.  I remember there is this flower tree in my house when I was a little girl. I like this flower because of several reasons.  Yulan, with its pure white color, is the symbol of spring and I was born in the spring, and it is unique because it comes into blossom before the leaves. That is why its bud is able to survive the winter.

“And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took blossom.” – Anais Nin.

2. Drawing Figures: I have had many times to draw models with active or passive poses.

4. Linear Perspectives & Technicolor: two point perspective

5. Portrait Expression: I like the observation from the back because of the opened possibility of the figure.

The background of this image is my former apartment in New York City.  That was my first townhouse apartment in the city and I was excited about living in the traditional townhouse.  I prepared my portfolio for enrollment in Parsons in the place and it was one of the most significant moments in my life.
