This is a piece of clothing that I customized in order to express the time when I was silenced and suppressed. The piece is made from a pre-made cardigan that I purchased from a thrift store and yarn I obtained from the weaving lab. The cardigan was selected due to the soft nature that clothing such as cardigans give off and the subtle pastel pink it carries. The yarn I used was dark green with metallic streaks woven into it, opposite vibes when compared to the cardigans.

The pink cardigan is a representation of my teenage self, it’s cut up and covered with the dark green yarn. The dark green yarn has a fantasy and attractive touch to it as it glistens under the lights. The green yarn surrounds and traps the cardigan, just like how I was trapped and covered in pretty but deadly lies. These lies scared me and manipulated me from speaking out my mind, and they even controlled my actions in many ways.

With this piece, I was able to explore more ways to work with yarn as I experimented multiple times on how to achieve the best result as I tried to cover parts of the cardigan as opaque as possible. By completely coving parts of the cardigan, it helps to demonstrate how trapped and helpless I felt when I was manipulated.
