Final Look
Because of the amazing texture and the rare color, I chose this baby blue short plush garment for my Studio Bridge 2. With the tie, this extra long cloth looked like a bathrobe. When I was touching it and feeling the texture, with the soft and pillowy touch, I felt that I was fondling a Ragdoll. With such a huge area using fur, it reminds me of the whole fur industry.
In Zoophilist point of view, the existing of the fur industry is immoral and inhuman. The factories to produce and process animals fur are full of brutality and blood. Since the fur industry has developed, in order to get their beautiful fur, the human had already killed fifty million of animals which most of them were alive. Most of the fur comes from China, where millions of dogs and cats are bludgeoned, hanged, bled to death, and often skinned alive for their fur. So, those zoophilists tried to use demonstrations to stop this atrocity.
I am the one who is really sympathy with these animals, but on the other side, I believe that the fashion industry cannot live without the fur. Donna Karan is one of my favorite designer who is the designer of the brand DKNY and Donna Karan. I thought that she was one of the best users of fur, and from the Zoophilist, she was called ‘the rabbit butcher’. The conflicts between Donna Karan and Zoophilist always very intense.
Should animal fur be banned to be used in the fashion industry? My answer is definitely no. The unique texture of the animal’s fur provide inspirations for thousands of designers. In annual Fall&Winter Fashion Week, the using of animal fur always played the most important role. Some New York brand like Ralph Lauren, Micheal Kors, Calvin Klein, will always publish their fancy fur garments. Animal fur does not only represent warmth but also symbolize the status. The gorgeous long seal-brown-colored fur always made the garment look fancy and luxurious which are loved by almost every women. Without fur, it will be so hard for the designer to make the garment looked pricey. Also, the durability of the fur is very well. I used to purchase a fur jacket in a vintage shop. The style of this jacket was a quiet old school but the fur looks shiny and new.
The use of shearling can not only keep the fancy and exorbitant look of the garment but also remit the atmosphere between Zoophilist and fur designers. Shearling is a skin from a recently shorn sheep or lamb that has been tanned and dressed in the wool left on. Fur and shearling are similar to our skin from animals, however, the difference between fur and shearling are huge. Basically, fur is got from dead animals which are not renewable, and shearling is from living animals which are renewable.
To cut the story short, the fashion industry cannot live without the fur industry. The specialty of the fur and the history of the fur inspiring the designer to create more and more masterpieces. Nowadays fur is no longer using for warmth but for fashion. Even though it is ‘fierce’ to produce fur, the development of technology, like the emerge of man-made fur and shearling, can be heeled to save those animals.
