Fashion is not only a career but also part of my life. Because as a fashion designer, making cloth is not only a job that I am going to survive on, rather, I think it’s a way for me to convey my attitude and concept to the society. To some people, clothing is just a necessity to them, but to a designer, fashion is more than representing who you are. Generally speaking, people would make assumptions on others when they just meet. But how you dress can definitely send a certain impression to others as well. On top of that, I think fashion is an intangible language that can speak to your energy and confidence. For example, if you think you are looking good today, then when you work, you would mentally feel more motivated than the usual.
I was considering between fashion design and fine arts before I made up my mind because I have been doing painting, oil painting for a long time. But I think it takes a very long time to tell a concept through fine arts, for example, you need time to build up your genre, your concept through every single painting and lots of shows/exhibit, whereas fashion design, it’s a lot more straightforward because you will get to show your concept at every single season throughout the year. In addition to that, I think not everybody understands the concept of a painting. However, because cloth plays an important role for everyone as a necessity, so it’s easier to do show my concept through fashion design.
