Idea of Representing Time

My idea for representing time would be to show forms of a missing child, with his chances of survival lessening day by day in a span of 8 days. The inspiration of this idea originated from when I saw reports of missing children in certain areas outside the busy and well patrolled environment of New York City. The message I am trying to communicate through making this work is for people, especially authority figures to understand that a missing person case is literally a race against time. We don’t have to count each second, time does that for us, and as each second passes, the possibility of the missing person’s survival will decline as well. This artwork will be completed on a sheet of cardboard, where words and imagery details will be drawn using ink. To uniquely display the concept of passing time, I will degrade the bottom half of the sheet of cardboard to make it seem like it has aged severely, this will be done through the soaking of the media in water numerous times and slashing and tearing at it with a knife and bare hands. In the end, my hope would be for the child in day 8 to have a completely blacked out appearance, with his head drooped down, showing that too much precious time has passed and the golden opportunities for his retrieval have just been dropped.
