Bridge 4

My perspective for this bridge project is “private”. This means that I would be presenting my project in the form of what I see and capture in my memory when we take the visit to our chosen location.

The place we’ve chosen as a group to visit is 5 Beekman Street. It is a historical building built in the late 1800s in the heart of Manhattan’s financial area today. Particularly outstanding among the modern architecture, this detailed, ancient looking complex was abandoned for decades before being renovated into the grand hotel it is today.

Project documentation:

  1. Create the torn edges of the paper by tearing with hands and hacking with knife.

2. Prepare water and coffee, spread the mixture of coffee and water using the spoon onto each page.

3. Leave each page onto the radiator to dry, roughly 1 minute.

Now was the time to print my memories upon visiting 5 Beekman Street. I chose black ink to draw in the style of rough sketches on top of stained, slightly torn paper, as if it came from an adventurer’s journal. I included thoughts I had upon seeing the details of the building’s interior, as well as its atmosphere. As discussed with my group, I was to enter the building without doing any research, meaning that the experience would be as fresh as possible. The style was also influenced by old story books I’ve read before, I figured that this would be a great way to present a personal story.
