Nástio Mosquito-Respectable Thief

During our field trip, we visited Nástio Mosquito’s exhibition- Respectable Thief, at the Museum of Modern Arts. The element that I chose to explore is image, as I was astonished by how the artist has chosen to combine different images in order to create a visual impact on the viewers. I found it very intriguing how the artist tends to display a unifying set of images in the background- shaped in rectangles on the sides; and another unique set of body part images in the foreground- shaped in a circle in the center. From a visual perspective, I thought this was very successful in directing the viewers’ attention towards the center of focus, where the images in circle are placed. I also thought that the incorporation of the text boxes and the typeface that the artist has chosen to use was appropriate, in that in each moment of the clip, the combination of the different images along with the text boxes deliver to the viewers an overwhelming, yet neat and tied feeling. Overall, the artist’s use of geometric shapes and neon colored schemes are also very aesthetically pleasing. However, one thing that seemed odd to me was that the images in the background don’t seem to relate or correspond to the images in the foreground clearly, therefore the viewers may be confused.
