Bridge 2 Reflection

My place is Hogan Place and Worth Street. Here are all the government buildings which look so serious. My intention is to make this place more interesting, so I created three small stories to add some funny points in this area. All the stories are related to some of the buildings here, and those stories belong to normal people instead of happening to officials who work here, which include a marriage plan, a stolen bag and a PAC-MAN game.

When I first visited this place, it was on a holiday so all the buildings there were closed. The weather that day was so cold, and wind almost blew me away. Most of the people walking on the street just walked by and held their jackets so tightly without giving any gap to the strong wind. I tried to find a place to sit down and recorded some something around, and my finger were frozen after seconds. All the three people I interviewed are visitors who just walked by without knowing many information about this place. However, it was pretty interesting to see the buildings there, which are really different from the modern constructions near my neighborhood. Those European style buildings can bring the serious sense for me. Thus, as a person who like to try play around with different ideas, I came up with the ideas of creating short pieces funny stories.

After I visited the place, I research the information about this area with those buildings, and I realize that the buildings in the place are with lots of history. There were many historical events happened at this place. Therefore, I also mix some of events into my stories. It was kind of hard to choose the events because many of them are political events which cannot really be used in my stories. What is more, through the discussion of the group in class, I got some useful suggestions to improve my maps. Also, I shared my opinions with them as well. The final results for me is satisfying.

For me, I think I would like to explore more interesting ways for the rest of the semester, like making collage, making 3d models or digital stuff. Trying different materials and finding inspirations from different things will sound so interesting to make arts.

Three stories

Path 1 WILL YOU MARRY ME

Nate and Kevin met each other on a sunny afternoon in Thomas Paine Park. They talked for a while on that long chair and exchanged their numbers with each other. What was going on after that? Their love story began.

Both of them were pretty busy this week, so during weekend, Nate texts Kevin.

“Do you still remember our first talking spot?” Nate asks.

“Yea, why?” Kevin replies in a second.

“Do you want to visit that place again?” Nate continues.

“Sure J” Kevin messages back with a smiley face.

They agree to meet each other at 2pm at Thomas Paine Park, and, of course, Kevin thought it is just a normal date hanging out with Nate. However, Nate is now at home busy preparing everything—he is going to propose. Surprise! Ta-da! Nate chooses his favorite shirt which is light blue with a tiny fish decoration on the pocket, and then wears a formal black suit to be prepared.

They both make it on time, and Kevin is surprised that Nate wears such a formal suit for today’s date. Unexpectedly, Nate proposes to Kevin with a silver ring. Kevin is so happy that he stands there with mouth open.

“Will you marry me?”

“Yes yes yes, I do!”

Eventually, they register to be married in the Marriage Bureau.

Path 2 WAIT, MY BAG

Sarah is assigned to interview some people in the Columbus park today. She and her photographer get prepared immediately and drive a car to the park.

Sarah writes down all the questions she needs to ask later and puts her bag on the bench nearby. She sees some old people are playing chess on a table, so she decides to go there and interviews them some questions.

“Excuse me, can I ask you some questions?”

“Yeah, go ahead.” One of the old men here answers.

She is about to ask the first question, and she sees that a thief is slowly reaching hand to her bag.

“Wait! My bag!” she shouts out loudly.

The thief runs away immediately. Luckily, there is a NYPD car just driving by, and they hear her shout and start to follow the thief. There is no doubt that car is faster than a person running, so they catch the thief and send him to the supreme court directly.

Sarah feels so lucky and scared at the same time, and she now carries her bag tightly and continues her work to interview the people in the Columbus Park.

Path 3 LET’S PLAY PAC-MAN

The wind recently is so addicted to the game PAC-MAN. He wants to try in a different area in a real place. He checks the map and finds out Hogan place is such a nice place to have fun.

The shape of the buildings here are in geometric shape, which includes hexagon, trapezoid, square and others. The wind is so happy to try here, but there is a problem that he notices.

“How can I eat the bigger dots inside the shapes?” Wind asks himself.

“I never meet this situation before.”

“What should I do?”

“Wait, I can just fly into this. I am wind!”

The wind feels much happier when he realizes that he can fly, so he can jump into the center of the shape as well.

It is such a cold day, because wind really wants to get all the dots as soon as possible. He speeds up without considering that trees are shaking, and people are holding their scarf and hat so closely.

The wind gets so much happiness today, but because of him, people feel frozen today as well.
