PROJECT STATEMENT

For this project, my idea is based on building a place which can help people to release pressure and avoid the extreme weather. I did not have a good experience in Hogan Place when I first visited here. There is no indoor place for me to sit into to finish my research. Also, because I went there on a holiday, there were not many people here, which looked so empty without energy. Starting from my personal feelings, I searched some information about that place where there are only governmental official buildings which are closed on holidays. People only go there for work instead of hanging out with friends there.

I want to make this place into an area which has more vivid feelings, and people can actually find a place to sit to talk to friends, release their pressure, and even pet their dogs and cats. Besides, they can still be in nature. Therefore, I decide to create an “indoor park”, which has balanced temperature, and the whole building is covered by green plants.

The most important and hardest part for me is to make people feel the transition from outside world to the inside park. In order to maximize this feeling, I decide to make the door space not too big, so people can feel wrapped when they first come in. However, after they step further, they will hear the music and a larger space will show up in front them. The narrow door space can mimic the feeling of going through a dark tunnel. People can be curious and expected, and after that, a new world is shown up in front them.

The function of each floor is different, but everything is still closely related to the word “park”. There are often some freelance musicians performing in the park, so I put the first floor with music. Hearing music can help people to release their pressure slowly. For the second floor, I decide to provide food for people who want to grab something to eat. I think many people like to hang out with friends in a dessert store, so they can eat and talk with others at the same time. The drinks or dessert are made from the plants in this building, which can bring people the feelings of nature as well. The third floor is mainly for relaxing. People can lie on the sofa to enjoy the sunshine in a quite environment. Additionally, each floor provides books for people to read.

My idea is to create an relaxing and comfortable environment for people to have fun and enjoy the nature.
